Nare Mokgotho's (/nah.ray/) film work pulses with razor-sharp comic timing rooted in grounded performances and lush cinematic worlds.
He comes equipped with a fine arts degree and a Master of Arts, Fine/Studio Arts, General, Cum Laude. Having grown up on a steady diet of cartoons, movies, and commercials, it was a foregone conclusion that Nare would pursue a career in advertising after graduating from art school.
Nare picked up several awards while working in advertising before moving to commercial film production. As a director, he quickly made his mark. In 2019, he won two Gold Screen Awards at the 20th Edition of the Young Directors Award.
Nare is also a practicing visual artist, exhibiting widely in his native South Africa and internationally, including installations at Documenta Fifteen and the Venice Biennale. He is a recent alum of the prestigious DAAD Artists-in-Berlin fellowship program, among other honors.
