DAX MARTINEZ-VARGAS is a comedy director from Austin, Texas, of Latino and Indigenous descent. Equal parts comedy, story, and cinematic visuals, Dax's work has earned him status as the 'King of Mock Epics.' His ability to craft highly visual action scenes and then upend them for a laugh, or a gasp, gets you every time. Damn you Dax!
Dax has created award-winning TV spots with top agencies BBH, Droga 5, BBDO, Mother, Creature, and Havas. And worked with global brands including Burger King, Coke, MTV, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Coors, Mentos, Carling, and BBVA.
Dax studied film at the University of Texas while creating cult-status comedic films for Austin's famed Alamo Drafthouse. Upon graduation, he was scooped up by the renowned MTV On-Air Promos department in NYC. He spent five years writing & directing award-winning branded content and making viral rap music videos about salads and budgeting––real gangsta ya nerd!
Dax never received detention, but he did get pulled out of high school debate class for using foul language. He has been trying to go straight ever since.
